Finding the right therapist matters. At Mahogany Counseling and Consulting Services, our clinicians bring warmth, authenticity, cultural awareness, and clinical experience to the therapy relationship.

Each provider has a distinct background and area of focus, but our shared goal is to help clients feel genuinely known, supported, and respected as they work through difficult experiences and move toward change.

Availability may vary by provider. We will help guide you toward the best fit based on your needs and current openings.

Founder, senior clinician, Virginia Board-Approved Clinical Supervisor, consultant, and professional services lead.

Aminah Mellion, MSW, LCSW is the founder of Mahogany Counseling and Consulting Services. She brings more than two decades of clinical experience to her work with children, adolescents, families, clinicians, and organizations.

Aminah’s approach is warm, nurturing, collaborative, and culturally sensitive. Clients often experience her as approachable, easy to talk to, and nonjudgmental. She gently challenges clients while allowing them to set the pace of treatment.

In therapy, Aminah helps clients recognize and understand patterns of behavior, relationship dynamics, and coping strategies that may no longer be serving them. Her work is especially strong for clients and families seeking a provider who understands how culture, identity, family upbringing, school environments, and lived experience influence mental health and healing.

When working with children and adolescents, Aminah values collaboration with caregivers. She structures treatment to include regular parent check-ins so families can stay connected to the therapeutic process and support progress outside of sessions.

Aminah is also a Virginia Board-Approved Supervisor and provides clinical supervision, trainings, and professional development for clinicians and organizations. Her professional services are grounded in cultural competence, ethics, self-care, and years of experience across clinical and school-based settings.

Additional Training, Presentations & Continuing Education

Aminah regularly pursues continuing education that supports her work with children, adolescents, families, clinicians, and culturally diverse communities. Her recent training has focused on culturally sensitive clinical assessment, diagnostic interviewing, clinical supervision, LGBTQ+ affirming care, immigrant student support, ADHD, Autism, burnout and vicarious trauma, and solution-focused approaches across education and mental health settings.

Aminah has also presented professional trainings for the National Association of Social Workers and the School Social Work Association of America, including ethics-focused and school-based mental health professionals.

Kathryn “Katie” Pacheco, MSW, Supervisee in Social Work provides individual therapy for adolescents, adults, and older adults. She works with clients healing from childhood trauma, relationship trauma, domestic violence, sexual abuse, and other difficult life experiences.

Katie’s clinical passion is helping people understand how past experiences continue to influence their present relationships, emotions, and sense of self. She supports clients navigating complex trauma and PTSD, anxiety, grief, codependency, attachment concerns, personality disorders, life transitions, and identity development.

Before becoming a clinical social worker, Katie worked in several helping professions, including nutrition and dietetics, education, child welfare, and crisis advocacy. These experiences give her a broad perspective on the many ways people experience stress, trauma, change, and resilience throughout different stages of life.

As a military spouse, Katie also brings firsthand understanding of the unique challenges military families face, including frequent moves, deployments, career transitions, and the complexity of building community while living far from home.

Clients often describe Katie as warm, authentic, collaborative, and easy to talk to. She strives to create a space where clients feel genuinely known — not judged — as they process difficult experiences and build healthier ways of relating to themselves and others.
