Frequently Asked Questions

Are you accepting new clients?

Yes. Availability may vary by provider, and we will help guide you toward the best fit based on your needs and current openings.

Which therapist should I work with?

If you are not sure which therapist is the right fit, that is okay. During the inquiry and consultation process, we will learn more about your needs and help guide you toward the provider whose experience, focus, and availability best align with what you are looking for.

Aminah works with children, adolescents, families, BIPOC clients, LGBTQ+ clients, and clients seeking culturally sensitive care. She also provides supervision, trainings, and professional consultation.

Katie works with adolescents, adults, and older adults navigating trauma, anxiety, relationship patterns, grief, life transitions, military life, caregiving responsibilities, and difficult past experiences.

Do you offer free consultations?

Yes. We offer free 15-minute consultations to help determine fit and answer initial questions before beginning therapy or professional services.

How quickly will I hear back?

We respond to inquiries within one business day.

Do you offer online therapy? What states do you serve?

Do you accept insurance?

Mahogany is a private-pay practice. We do not bill insurance directly.

We use Thrizer as our payment platform for private-pay sessions. If you have out-of-network benefits, Thrizer can help check your estimated benefits, estimate your session cost, process payments, and submit eligible out-of-network claims after sessions are charged.

Any cost or reimbursement estimate is based on available benefit information. Reimbursement is not guaranteed and is determined by your insurance plan after claims are processed.

If eligible, you may also have the option to pay an estimated upfront amount instead of paying the full session fee and waiting for reimbursement.

You can use the Thrizer benefits widget to check your estimated out-of-network benefits and session cost.

What is the benefit of not using insurance?

Choosing private-pay therapy can offer more privacy, flexibility, and choice in your care. It allows you and your therapist to make decisions based on your goals and clinical needs rather than insurance requirements.

Private-pay care may also offer more flexibility around frequency, focus, and length of treatment. If you have out-of-network benefits, you may still be able to receive reimbursement from your insurance plan.

What is a Good Faith Estimate?

A Good Faith Estimate explains the expected cost of services for clients who are uninsured or choosing not to use insurance. It is based on the information known at the time the estimate is created and may not include unexpected costs that arise during treatment.

If your needs change during treatment, your provider may provide an updated Good Faith Estimate. The Good Faith Estimate is not a contract and does not require you to receive services from Mahogany Counseling and Consulting Services.

Do you work with children and adolescents?

Yes! Mahogany works with children and adolescents navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, identity concerns, school stress, family transitions, emotional challenges, perfectionism, school avoidance, and difficult life experiences.

How are parents involved in therapy?

When working with children and adolescents, caregiver collaboration is an important part of the process. We value regular communication with parents or guardians and may include parent check-ins to support consistency, shared understanding, and progress outside of sessions.

Do you offer professional training or consultation?

Yes. Mahogany offers professional consultation, trainings, and professional development for clinicians, agencies, and organizations. Training topics may include culturally competent services, ethics, self-care for mental health professionals, burnout, vicarious trauma, school-based mental health, and related areas.

What can I expect in clinical supervision?

Aminah is a Virginia Board-Approved Supervisor and provides virtual clinical supervision to social workers in Virginia.

Supervision is an investment in your professional development. It offers space to strengthen your clinical skills, reflect on your work, explore ethical decision-making, and grow in confidence as a clinician.

You can contact Mahogany for a free consultation to discuss how Aminah’s diverse experience can support your professional growth.
